The Last Airbender, M. Night Shyamalan’sThe Last Air live action adaptation of Nickelodeon’s Avatar (which was adapted from a Japanese Manga…) is getting dry reviews, as some critics call it nothing to rush into theatres over. As it comes out Thursday, July 1, some parents may be considering heading out to see the film with their kids this holiday weekend.
Jason Rabin of Blast Magazine said despite whispering dragons, flying yaks, magic powers and epic 3D martial arts action, The Last Airbender was, “Surprisingly dull.”
Others are saying the film starts with a bang, but by the time it starts to get into the plot, the action dies down so much viewers start to lose interest. You know how hard it is to keep kids entertained for more than 30 minute intervals as it is, so it might be a risk with the film clocking in at 103 minutes.
If your kids are already big fans of Avatar, they may not lose interest, but with theatre prices what they are today, this one sounds like it might be better to wait until it’s out on DVD. I mean really, you can get it for $.99 out of every RedBox, which definitely beats $10/person at the local theatre.
