There are so many talented and smart people out there who need to have their own educational television shows. Like Danny Tieger, for instance. After a friend turned me on to Tieger’s YouTube Channel yesterday, I literally fell in love with his song, “My Universe Revolves Around You,” song.
Sounds a bit like a clever little love song, doesn’t it? Well, it is, but not in the way you might think. “My Universe Revolves Around You,” is actually about Kepler’s Law and Newton’s Laws of motion.
It’s a catchy tune, and I have literally been walking around singing it for the last twenty-four hours.
Great educational resources like this work because kids can identify with them in a way they simply can’t relate to stale and rigid commentary. I imagine if I’d heard a song like this when I was in middle-school, I’d have understood Newton’s Laws much better. Instead, I had to wait until I took basic physics in college before I really got the gist of it.
So whether you’re teaching your kids about planetary movement, gravity, Sir Isaac Newton’s three laws–or you just want to get a better handle on it for yourself so you can more easily explain it, you do not want to miss this video.
Besides, I’m just not happy until I pass my earworms on to everyone else.
Enjoy!

Thanks for the kind words Jennifer. I produced this clip with exactly what you wrote about in mind. We have to make science and math cool to kids again so they can get excited about it. We like to think of these songs as School House Rock 2.0!
