Baby Matters Answers Questions about Nap Nanny® Recall

Every day it seems like another product designed to make our lives easier as parents winds up being unsafe for our kids. I’ve reported on more than half a dozen child-related recalls in the last month, but you know that barely begins to scratch the surface on the recall front.

Baby Matters LLC, the company that makes Nap Nanny®–a seat designed to protect kids while they are napping–issued a voluntary recall in conjunction with the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The company recalled more than 30,000 units of the reclining baby seat after reports surfaced of a four-month-old baby girl being found dead in her crib.

According to the CPSC, the baby rolled over the side of the Nap Nanny® Baby Recliner while she was strapped into the harness. She was found hanging between the seat and her crib bumper. Similar reports of non-death injuries include babies receiving cuts and bruises to the forehead.

Baby Matters announced that owners of the original Nap Nanny®, which was available between January 2009 through August 2009, should stop using the Nap Nanny® immediately. You can contact the company direct for instructions on how to exchange your original Nap Nanny® for an $80 voucher toward the second-generation model.

According to Baby Matters, the second-generation Nap Nanny® is safer, and not part of the recall.

To contact Baby Matters, call the Nap Nanny® Hotline toll free Monday through Friday during the hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET at 888-240-4282.

If you do use a second generation Nap Nanny® baby recliner, Baby Matters and the CPSC remind parents that the seat is only for floor use and should not be used in playpens, cribs or atop any elevated surface.
